Seasoning Earthenware

    What to Prepare
  • ・Earthenware pot for seasoning
  • ・Cooked rice
  • ・Water

How to Do It

  • 1.Wash the earthenware pot with water, wipe it thoroughly, and let it air dry completely. Heating the pot while it is still wet may cause cracks, so be sure to dry it well before use.
    • Make sure to clean the pot thoroughly before use, as any residue or grease may cause stains or discoloration.
    • Be careful not to heat the pot while the sides or bottom are still wet, as this may cause cracking or other damage.
  • 2.Fill the earthenware pot with water up to about 80% full, then add the leftover rice and gently loosen it.
  • 3.Simmer over low heat until cooked, then turn off the heat and let it sit for at least one hour.
    • Do not cover with a lid, and heat slowly to prevent boiling over.
    • Do not overheat, as the starch may burn.
  • 4.Wipe with a dry cloth and let the earthenware air dry. Drying times may vary for each piece, but as a guideline, leave it in the sun for at least one day to ensure it is thoroughly dried.
    • Even if the pot appears dry, it may still retain absorbed moisture. Storing it without thoroughly drying can lead to mold growth.
    • When drying, stand the pot upright or, if placing it upside down, insert chopsticks or similar objects to allow air circulation for more effective drying.
