About Marumitsu Poterie
Message
Around 1985, I visited a pottery in Takiro, Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, to discuss work.
The manufacturer was producing large quantities of tableware for export to Europe.
The company president showed me a café au lait bowl and said,
“The French drink their café au lait with this.”
I simply thought, “How stylish.”
At that time, the culture of drinking café au lait was not yet familiar in Japan.
But seeing that bowl made me want to actually try drinking something like coffee with milk from it.
It stirred my imagination of French people’s daily lives, and with it, a sense of joy and admiration.
“Tableware defines the drink.”
“Tableware defines the food.”
I was struck by the power of tableware and realized for the first time how deeply it could shape one’s feelings.
That very moment became the origin of Marumitsu Poterie’s original tableware.
MISSION
By using Marumitsu Poterie’s tableware,
we bring more joy and richness to people’s meals.
We share the message that “Meals are delightful.”
Just like the café au lait bowl that once moved me,
we create tableware that touches people’s hearts and makes everyday mealtimes a little more enjoyable.
We believe tableware has that power—and we want people to know it.
That is why we feel it is important for everyone to experience that “Meals are delightful.”
With this in mind, Marumitsu Poterie designs tableware and offers a variety of dining suggestions to many people.
