陶器は水を吸ってしまうから乾燥には時間がかかる。
洗ってすぐに拭いて収納してはダメ。
そんな話がありますが、それならどれくらい乾かさないといけないの？
私の大事な器をカビさせないためにも、その情報は必須です！
というわけで今回、陶器の乾燥実験を敢行しました。
梅雨の日の乾燥実験
今回、使う器はカビ取り実験にも使用した器と同じシリーズの
「カネル ココット」をはじめ、「スーチョンタン ボールL」「たたら 7寸焼物皿」「長石粉引 丸飯碗」
の4つです。
実験方法
今回の実験は水の重さが1cc=1gという特性を利用して、
まず器だけの重さを測り、そのあと器に水を含ませまた重さを測ります。
その後、乾燥させながら定期的に重さを測り、
吸水した水の量と減っていく水の量を観察するという実験です。
ちなみに実験を行ったのは「梅雨の真っ只中」。
湿度は常に65〜70%です。気温は25℃前後です。
まず浸水前に重さを測り、実験スタートです。
浸水時間は30分。
マルミツポテリのご使用前の浸水時間としてオススメしている時間です。
浸水させていると、器の表面に気泡が見られました。
水を吸っている証拠ですね。
浸水させて、再び重さを測り、風通しのいいところに放置。
1時間ごとに重さを記録していきます。
その結果がこちら。

「カネル ココット」「スーチョンタン ボールL」は
完全に器が吸った水分がなくなるまで33時間かかりました。
「たたら 7寸焼物皿」に至っては丸3日経っても完全には水分が抜けきりません。
一方でほとんど水を吸わなかった「長石粉引 丸飯碗」は開始から1時間で元の重量に戻りました。
梅雨時の陶器がここまで乾かないとは驚きです。
これでは食器棚の中でカビが繁殖してしまうのも無理はない。
水をよく吸う陶器は、梅雨時は少なくとも1日半は乾かすのがベター。
器を清潔に長く使うためにも、しっかり乾燥させましょう。
梅雨に時期の陶器は、「常に風通しの良い場所で乾かすように保管しておく」というのも手かもしれませんね。
冬以外の季節、湿度は下がりつつあるとはいえ、気温は常にカビの生えやすい条件に当てはまります。
そんな条件で、空気が滞ってしまうとカビの繁殖も活発に。
湿度の調整に加えて、食器棚の空気の入れ替えをこまめにするなど、空気の循環にも気を配ってみてください。
器をカビから守るためにも、ぜひ乾燥と空気の入れ替えを実践してみてくださいね。
もう二度と、器にカビが生えませんように、、、。
